pre-admission
Before being accepted onto the programmes offered by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT), we need to assess whether people will benefit from our services. This assessment can take place at one of our units or in someone’s
home.
We will consider any person with an acquired
brain injury
(whether caused by illness, accident or assault).
We would not normally consider people with congenital
forms of brain injury or those with degenerating neurological
conditions (such as dementia, MS or Huntington’s disease).
Our programmes are aimed at individuals who
it is believed are capable of developing socially acceptable
behaviours, even if challenging or anti-social behaviours
are present. They are not designed for people who display
serious, frequent or gratuitous acts of physical aggression.
Following the initial visit we will also outline
the likely aims of any rehabilitation programme.
