our approach
Our programme is designed for people
who, following careful assessment, we consider have the potential
for increased independence and social reintegration.
All our programmes follow a neurobehavioural
approach to rehabilitation.
We believe it is never too late to benefit from
rehabilitation and that people in our service always have
the potential to become more independent and to improve their
quality of life.
We particularly focus on the development of
useful skills and increased self-esteem through vocational
training and work placement schemes.
By working intensively with each client, our
expert staff help them to relearn old skills which have been
lost as a result of brain injury, or to acquire new skills
to help minimise the impact the injury.
We would not normally
consider people with congenital forms of brain injury or those
with progressive neurological conditions (such as dementia
or Huntington’s disease).
The BIRT programme offers a full range of care
and rehabilitation services including:
Our goal is to match our service to the needs
of the client, so maximising their potential to live a valued
lifestyle within the wider community.
There are numerous survivors
of head injury, nationally, who have experienced the
BIRT programme and are now living more independently as a
result.
