our service users
We offer a service to service users with acquired
brain injury who require longer-term care and rehabilitation.
Our clients will normally have already experienced a period
of intensive rehabilitation before coming to Redford Court.
The service is tailored to meet individual
needs. Our philosophy is that all people with acquired brain
injury have the potential to make progress, no matter how
severe their injury or how long ago it occurred.

rehabilitation
We aim to promote the independence and
self-esteem of our service users within the framework of a neurobehavioural
model.
Redford Court offers comfortable, modern accommodation
alongside unobtrusive clinical supervision from expert staff.
Every service user has their own large room with en-suite facilities.
We create and maintain a friendly and structured
environment. We have a daily programme, but each service user has
an individual programme to meet his or her unique needs.
Although we are able to offer a home for life,
many of our service users do progress and move on. Service users may move
into independent living flats (transitional living units)
or into a supported house that can be placed anywhere in the
country and shared with other people if desired, or they can
live independently, and receive appropriate staff supervision
and support.
Service users are actively encouraged to participate
in decision-making. There are regular meetings where service users
can have their say about events and other issues that affect
the running of Redford Court, and also contribute to the recruitment
and training of staff.

Meet our new psychologist
Dr Ivan Pitman, the new psychologist at Redford Court, writes about his work.
I have the longest job title I know of ‘Consultant in Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation’! It sounds very grand. I started work on the 1st April but I don’t think this title was an April Fools.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays I will be working with the service users and the rehab team at Redford Court. On Wednesdays I will be supporting BIRT’s community services in the North West. This includes the community homes in Carlisle and Blackpool and a number of individuals who are supported by BIRT in their own homes.
I am currently involved in doing research with former colleagues from the University of Liverpool into brain injury. The aim of this research is to help others better understand how the brain works after it has been damaged and how we can best help are service users and their families. So I may from time to time ask people to be involved.
Prior to working with BIRT much of my working life has been spent behind bars! (the prison type not the cocktail type) as I have a specialist interest in individuals with brain injury who have found themselves in trouble with the law. My history of secure care (looking after people who are locked up) has taken me from high secure to medium secure to low secure settings – so I think Redford Court must be evidence of my progress and good behaviour!
I’ve lived and worked on Merseyside for over 15 years and whilst I’m not a big football fan myself I have to say I live in a house full of Reds!
I am very excited about coming to Redford Court and working with Kerri and the team. I look forward to getting to know all the staff, service users and their families over the forthcoming months.
