Leaving a gift in your will
One of the simplest yet most effective
ways of supporting The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) is by leaving a
gift under your will.
Legacies are extremely important for the Trust
and represent a wonderful opportunity for people to show their
appreciation of the value of our work in a way that they may
not be able to do during their lifetime. The Trust has been
fortunate to receive some substantial legacy gifts in recent
years. Will you help us to continue to provide the best quality
services for people with disabilities in years to come by
leaving a gift in your will to the Trust?
Your donation in this special way, however small
or large, can really make a difference and help us to plan
ahead with confidence for the future.
Drawing up a will
If you have not already made a will, it is simple to do and
not as expensive as you may think. We recommend that you use
a professional adviser or solicitor to help you do it.
If you do not make a will, then in effect the
state does it for you. Without a will (or with one that is
not up to date), there are certain rules which dictate where
your money and possessions go. This could mean that your family
and friends might not necessarily benefit.
Making a will can also be important for you
as it can help reduce inheritance tax on your estate, since
legacies to charities like The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust are exempt.
If you have already made a will, then it is
quite easy to make an addition to it by making a codicil,
which is then lodged with your existing will.
If you have generously decided to leave a gift
in your will to The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust, we would be most grateful
if you could notify us. Any information will of course be
treated in strict confidence.
Remember a Charity
The Disabilities Trust (of which the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust is a division - the means by which the Disabilities Trust provides its brain injury services) is pleased to be associated with the Remember a Charity campaign.
We are one of over 140 charities that have joined
together in the biggest combined effort of its kind to raise
awareness about the effectiveness of legacy giving to charities.
The co-ordinated national campaign is already
proving very successful, with the numbers of people including
a charitable bequest in their wills now on the increase.
For further information on the campaign, especially
if you are one of those people who have not yet made a will,
please visit www.rememberacharity.org.uk.

In Memoriam Donations
The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust has been extremely grateful in recent years to receive a number of 'in memoriam' donations, for example in lieu of sending flowers at a funeral.
If you feel able to support our work in this wonderful way, we shall be delighted. Please telephone 01444 239123 or write to The Fundraising Department, The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust, 32 Market Place, Burgess Hill, West Sussex RH15 9NP.
