TV drama about brain injury

19 February 2007

A BBC drama about recovery from brain injury will be screened on Sunday 25 February.

Staff from the Disabilities Trust were involved in the research for Recovery, a drama starring David Tennant about a man who is left with brain injuries following an accident that completely transforms his personality, leading to problems within his once-perfect marriage.

Alan Hamilton has an enviable life with a good job and two sons with the childhood sweetheart he still adores.

But one evening he steps out in front of a car and is left with a brain injury that leads him to swing from a range of extreme emotions, leaving his wife struggling to cope.

"The drama should be a very real example of the case of a brain-injured person who, whilst appearing perfectly normal, has had his whole personality changed," said David Eggleston of the Disabilities Trust, who along with Professor Mike Oddy of BIRT met the producer when they were doing their research for the programme.

The drama is screened Sunday 25 February 2006 at 9pm.
