BIRT’s major new residential service at
Kerwin Court near Horsham, West Sussex, will be offically opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester on 18 September 2007.
The new purpose-built unit comprises 18 beds, including two independent flats, for people with acquired brain injury who require intensive rehabilitation.
There is an adjacent block of five bungalows for those people who require an intermediate step before leaving the service.
The unit initially offers an assessment and rehabilitation service, with input from a variety of clinicians and rehabilitation support workers.
An initial staff team, headed by Colin Carpenter, Service Manager, and Dr Camilla Herbert, Consultant in Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation, is now in place, with all staff having undertaken an intensive induction period.
An open day was held at Kerwin Court on 11th May, which was extremely well attended by representatives from health authorities, social services, local councillors and other supporters of the project.
For more information about Kerwin Court, please contact Colin Carpenter, Service Manager on 01403 799160 or e-mail colin.carpenter@birt.co.uk.
