CSCI's verdict on BIRT

21 May 2008

CSCI, the Commission for Social Care Inspection, which inspects and reports on care homes throughout the UK, has launched new quality ratings.

For the first time ever, the public and purchasers can see at a glance whether care services are excellent (3 stars), good (2 stars), adequate (1 star) or poor (0 stars).

Here’s how BIRT services were rated by CSCI:

  • 1101 Bristol Road ** Good

  • Daniel Yorath House *** Excellent

  • Fen House ** Good

  • Kent House ** Good

  • Redford Court *** Excellent

  • West Heath House ** Good

  • The Woodmill *** Excellent

  • Thomas Edward Mitton House *** Excellent

  • Kerwin Court – not yet rated

  • York House – regulated by Healthcare Commission.

  • CSCI Annual Corporate Provider Report

Residential and domiciliary care services provided by The Disabilities Trust are also collectively rated in the CSCI Annual Corporate Provider Report.

In this extensive report, which covers not only brain injury services but also those provided to people with autism, physical disability and learning disability, CSCI assesses the performance of the Trust against the national and regional averages of all services inspected by CSCI .

In particular the report measures performance against the 43 national minimum standards and the percentage of those standards achieved by the Trust as a whole.

The Disabilities Trust achieves consistently higher results than the national averages and the supporting narrative comments very favorably on the work of the Trust in empowering and supporting people.
